A meeting concerning the Floodplain Management Program will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 5th in the 3rd floor hearing room of the courthouse. Mostly this meeting is for the review and discussion on the new DFIRM maps that are the first major improvement to our program in Camden County since we began the program in 1994. The meeting is a public hearing and if there are questions about the program itself we will try to answer them as well. The floodplain program does not directly relate to water quality at the lake but does effect development and where (& how) it can occur with regard to floodplains.
One thing people here at the lake should learn is that ALL lake front properties have some floodplain (up to elevation 664-foot) and when buying / selling / or refinancing this can have an effect because a lender may require flood insurance even though the residence is well above that elevation.

EPA’s Sustainable Infrastructure Initiative guides the Agency’s efforts in changing how the nation views, values, manages, and invests in its water infrastructure. EPA is working with the water industry to identify best practices that have helped many of the nation’s utilities address a variety of management challenges and extend the use of these practices to a greater number of utilities.
EPA, in collaboration with a coalition of state and local leaders, is helping to build a roadmap for a sustainable water infrastructure.

LAKE OF THE OZARKS — It took more than 650 man hours, 300 gallons of gas and dozens of volunteers to pull it off and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has extended its thanks.
For its commitment to the environment, the Lake of the Ozarks Watershed Alliance was recently honored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources for the completion of a successful 2007 water sampling program.
LOWA executive director Donna Swall said the all-volunteer group collected more than 350 samples as part of a program implemented to monitor trends in E. coli levels last summer. In its first year, the program went off without a hitch, which is likely what caused DNR to take notice, she said.
Swall said it was no small task. Volunteers and DNR worked together to
coordinate testing sites and drop off locations. DNR went to great lengths
to train volunteers to prepare them before they headed out on the water, she said.
